mac-games-2019

When a new epic game comes out, Mac gamers are often left out in the cold. Game developers prefer to ignore Mac owners and port their games to PC. This can leave Mac gamers frustrated, as the long wait for a Mac port (that might never even happen) begins.

Recently, quite a few developers have taken the time to port their awesome games to Mac as well as PC. So, in this article, we take a look at some of the best Mac games to play in 2019.

1. Firewatch

Have you ever wanted to experience isolation in the Wyoming wilderness? In Firewatch, you play as Henry, a fire lookout responsible for maintaining the forest and keeping a watchful eye on any plumes of smoke.

The only connection you have with the outside world is a radio allowing you to speak with your distant boss, Delilah. When you start venturing out of your watchtower, you uncover many strange secrets. This first-person mystery game may not involve fighting enemies, but its riveting story will have you addicted.

Harvest Moon fans can rejoice—developers have brought Stardew Valley, a Harvest Moon-inspired farming RPG, to Mac. Plus, as this is one of the Mac games that cost under $20, you can’t really go wrong.

You start out with nothing but old tools, a small amount of money, and a plot of land left to you by your grandfather. It’s your job to establish a successful farm to revitalize the town of Stardew Valley. Harvest crops, care for livestock, and bond with locals. If you get bored playing by yourself, you can even invite a friend to help build your farm.

4. Subnautica

I hope you’re not scared of swimming in the ocean, as Subnautica will intensify your fears. This relaxing yet thrilling game will have you on the edge of your seat while you explore the ocean.

After your spaceship crashes on a strange ocean planet, you’re tasked with gathering resources for your survival. Your only option for food and crafting materials lies in the ocean. Once you take the plunge, you’ll encounter stunning scenery and dangerous alien creatures. Don’t forget to check your oxygen supply!

5. Overcooked! 2

Overcooked! 2 will teach you all about teamwork (honestly, it’ll probably result in a fight between you and your friends). Recruit some fellow chefs and manage a restaurant kitchen. A normal kitchen would just be plain boring, so that’s why Overcooked! 2 uses the most chaotic and stressful kitchens you can find.

As you cook, wash dishes, and attempt to serve customers, you’ll notice the kitchen go through some interesting changes. Sometimes the floor will shift, preventing you from reaching the other side of the kitchen. On other occasions, you have to travel through a teleporter to complete your task. Can it get any more challenging than that?

6. Rocket League

By now, you’ve probably heard of the award-winning indie game, Rocket League. If you love playing FIFA, you should give Rocket League a shot, since it’s basically soccer with cars.

Play alone or with a team, as you drive your very own Battle-Car and attempt to steer a giant ball towards the goal. Block the other team’s passes by jumping and dodging with your car. Hit speedups as you drive over the field, and score a winning goal.

7. Divinity: Original Sin 2

The Divinity series has some of the best role-playing games for Mac, thanks to its engaging gameplay and seemingly endless maps. Divinity: Original Sin 2 follows in the footsteps of its turn-based cousins, and definitely doesn’t disappoint.

Join your friends and explore the world of Rivellon where you can kill non-playable characters, chat up animals, and use your environment to your advantage during battles. Before you start, you’ll need to create your own character. Become a lizard, human, elf, dwarf, or undead. Just remember that the origin you choose will affect how the world interacts with you.

8. Rust

Rust is an intense, dog-eat-dog game that pits players against each other in an open world wilderness. You play as a (buck-naked) person who’s focused on one thing: survival. That means hunting animals for food, stealing supplies, constructing your own shelter, and defending yourself and your belongings from other (buck-naked) players.

You have the choice of creating an alliance with other players, but can you trust them? Rust players won’t hesitate to backstab. You’re going to need a guide to survival games if you want to make it out of Rust alive.

9. Deltarune

Were you in love with Undertale as much as I was? Well, you’re in for a treat. Toby Fox, Undertale’s creator, has released a new adventure for Undertale fans called Deltarune (an anagram of Undertale).

Like Undertale, Deltarune is a top-down RPG game where you face both turn-based and bullet hell-style combat. Despite the similarities between the two games, Deltarune isn’t a sequel to Undertale. Instead of playing as Frisk, you take on the role of Kris, a human living on a monster-inhibited Earth.

Deltarune’s first chapter is out now, and you can expect more in the future.

10. SOMA

If you think that Subnautica seems scary, then SOMA will have you terrified. Horror and gore-lovers flock to SOMA for its intriguing storyline, detailed graphics, and unmistakable thrill factor.

You play the game through Simon Jarrett’s eyes, a man who enigmatically wakes up at an underwater research facility. The station barely has any food, the radio has no connection, and you’re left alone with ruthless enemies. You’ll need your stealth skills to get through this game, as you have no weapons to fight against the malfunctioning robots and strange creatures that you come across.

11. Total War: Warhammer II

If strategy games are your thing, you can’t go wrong with a classic like Total War: Warhammer II. Not only does this game come packed with hundreds of hours of gameplay, but it also gives you the chance to replay it over and over again for a whole new experience each time.

Total War: Warhammer II comes with the same elements as other Warhammer video games. Follow along with the complex story in campaign mode, and pit your army against foes in exciting turn-based combat.
