Locals Protest In Alwar Against Rajasthan BJP MP After He Threatens Cops
A BJP MP's angry stand-off with the police was met with protests by the locals in Rajasthan's Alwar on Monday. The standoff included a threat to the cops in the Congress-ruled state after some of the MP's supporters were called in for questioning over a hospital firing incident.
Baba Balaknath, an MP from Alwar, tried to enter a police station in Behror but was stopped by the police barricades. Angered by the questioning of his supporters in the January 5 hospital shootout case, he threatened the police will have to "pay" for it once the regime changes.
"I will make him pay for what he has done once the regime changes in nine months. I will ensure salvation for everyone," Mr Balaknath threatened the cops, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The MP left after the state police chief assured a fair investigation into the case within five days.
The summons for questioning came after one of the accused in the shootout case had pointed to some of Mr Balaknath's supporters meeting the suspects a day before the incident.
The police found the locals support who hit the streets in protest against the MP and said the police should be allowed to do their job. The protesters also raised slogans and burnt an effigy of the MP.
